Bolshevik
Defined: a member of the Marxist Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party that seized power of Russian in 1917
How did the ruling political party of Russia get the name "Bolshevik"?
Literally, this term just means "the greater." When the Social Democratic Party in Russia split at its convention in 1903, Lenin and his supporters — the more radical group — were in the majority and so took the name "Bolshevik." The less radical group, being in the minority, took the name "Menshevik" — literally, "the littler."
