Talking Spanish Dictionary
The Talking Spanish Dictionary of WebWorkbooks contains over 120,000 entries. Most words are divided into syllables to assist in learning the correct pronunciation. This Spanish dictionary is unique because many words are accompanied by two voice files, identified by the icons located in the upper portion of the definition window, that further reinforce correct pronunciation. Click on the left speaker icon to hear how the word is pronounced in Spain, and on the right icon to hear how it is pronounced in Latin America (though regional differences exist). There are currently over 45,000 sound files.
Spanish Quizzes
The quizzes section is intended to supplement the other portions of WebWorkbooks' Spanish material. The quizzes test most areas of Spanish grammar with special attention given to typically troublesome topics.
The usual format of the grammar quizzes is as follows: a model question and answer is given, followed by a short explanation of the rule in English with bilingual examples. (These short explanations are meant to serve as a review or reminder only; for a full explanation, consult the grammar section.) Students can choose to review first or go straight to the self-scoring quiz, which will give instant feedback. Vocabulary quizzes are preceded by the presentation and translation of a set of vocabulary words.
WebWorkbooks quizzes are interactive, user-friendly, fun, and extremely valuable tools.
Spanish Vocabulary
The vocabulary section offers alphabetical lists of useful words arranged in dozens of thematic categories, such as Family, Colors, and Clothing. Some sections are complemented by Useful Sentences that provide examples of how the vocabulary might be used in everyday contexts.
Spanish Verb Conjugator
The Spanish verb Conjugator is a key feature of WebWorkbooks' Spanish material. Understanding Spanish verb conjugations is essential to effective communication, and key to the whole language-learning process. The verb conjugator is designed to make Spanish verb conjugation simple to understand and easy to memorize. Complete verb conjugation in all indicative and subjunctive tenses is provided for over 10,000 Spanish verbs. An easy-to-read, color-coded format makes it simple to recognize patterns and to spot irregularities and spelling changes. This Spanish verb conjugator is unique because many of the verbs are accompanied by two voice files, identified by the icons located in the upper portion of the definition window, that further reinforce correct pronunciation. Click on the left speaker icon to hear how the word is pronounced in Spain, and on the right icon to hear how it is pronounced in Latin America (though regional differences exist). There are currently over 3,000 verb sound files.
Spanish Grammar
The grammar section provides a simple, unified presentation of the essential elements of a Spanish grammar course. The core material on each subject is presented in a form that is suitable for pre-examination review. Regardless of your method for learning Spanish, this grammar section is an effective, easy-to-use supplement.
The grammar section is organized according to the major parts of speech, such as nouns and verbs, and other items such as days of the week. Frequent comparisons between English grammar and corresponding Spanish constructions are provided to help the student understand Spanish grammar through familiar English usage. The quizzes section (described below) provides many corresponding exercises to reinforce grammar rules.
Spanish Library
The library section of WebWorkbooks will continue to grow, offering unique resources to help students understand, speak, and read Spanish.
The current offerings include:
- Step-by-Step Reading Course: Aimed at people who have few, if any, Spanish skills, this course introduces students to the most common words in Spanish. A limited number of new words is presented in each lesson, and each word is repeated several times. Quizzes follow each lesson.
- Advanced Idiom Course: This course, given completely in Spanish, introduces advanced students to 15 new idioms per lesson.
Spanish Resources
The goal of this section is to help students who are looking for a Spanish language school in another country. Often, one has to make this choice in advance, from home, without being able to visit the school. We do this part for you, and only recommend schools that we have actually visited. We visit as many schools as possible in each area and then select one or two schools to recommend that we believe are very good schools.
