Useful Grammar For This Quiz
The past tense (el pretérito) in Spanish corresponds exactly to the simple past tense in English; thus it is used to describe any completed* action or event in the past.
Yo hablé (I spoke)
Él comió (he ate)
Ellos vendieron (they sold)
Verbs of the first conjugation (i.e., those ending in -ar are conjugated in the following manner:

* Just as in English, for a continuing past action, a second past tense is used, the so-called imperfect past tense (el imperfecto). This will be studied in a later exercise.
