Useful Grammar
In Spanish the subject pronouns are often dropped from sentences. This can be done in Spanish because the form and ending of the verb indicate the number and person of the subject. Thus one says, "Somos amigos." We may omit the subject pronoun nosotros in such a sentence because the form and ending of the verb indicate clearly that the subject is first person plural.
Many students learning Spanish, however, find it easier at first to include all subject pronouns. There is naturally no rule against such usage. There are cases where, for reasons of clarity, the pronouns must be included.
Ella es diligente pero él no es.
She is diligent but he is not.
Finally, there are numerous cases where the pronouns are used more or less independently. Therefore, the pronouns must be studied and learned well.
¿Quién es el maestro de la clase — usted o él?
Who is the teacher of the class — you or him?
