The verbs preferir, mentir, divertirse, and morir belong to the same group as sentir and dormir, studied in the previous lesson. The first three of these verbs (preferir, mentir, divertirse) change the vowel e of their stems to ie when the accent falls upon this vowel; they are thus conjugated exactly like sentir. Morir changes the vowel o of its stem to ue; morir is thus conjugated exactly like dormir.

NOTE: The verb morir, although sometimes found in non-reflexive form, is more generally used reflexively (morirse).
