Spanish Grammar Test: Vowel-Changing Verbs
Present Tense of Vowel -Changing -ER Verbs
Instructions:Supply the proper form of the verb.
Question: Yo nunca perder mis libros.
Answer: pierdo
Useful Grammar
In the present tense of a few verbs that terminate in -er, the vowel of the stem also changes from o to ue, and from e to ie when the accent falls upon this vowel. Again, as with the verbs of the first conjugation undergoing these same changes, the endings remain regular.
E — IE
perder (to lose)

O — UE
volver (to return)

NOTE: Entender changes the e of its stem to i; it is thus conjugated exactly like perder.
entender (to understand)

Llover changes the o of its stem to ue; it is thus conjugated like volver; except that llover is a defective (impersonal) verb and exists only in the third person singular. It thus has only the one form llueve in the present tense.
llover (to rain)
