Following the example below, all regular IR verbs, of which vivir is an example, the -ir ending is dropped and to the remainder, viv, which is the stem, are attached the following endings which are shown in green.


Present Tense Examples
The present tense in Spanish is used in the same way as the simple present tense in English, namely, to describe an action which goes on every day or in general.
Yo vivo en América.
I live in America.
Vivo arriba.
I live upstairs.
Vive en el centro de Londres.
She lives in central London.
Vive en una casa muy grande en el campo.
She lives in a very big house in the country.
Vive lejos de allí.
She lives far from there.
¿Exactamente dónde vives en Londres?
Where exactly in London do you live?
¿Vives con tus padres?
Do you live with your parents?
¿En qué calle vive Ud.?
What street do you live on?
Vive en Madrid, ¿verdad?
She lives in Madrid, doesn't she?
Vive en una isla pequeña.
He lives on a little island.
Vivimos al lado de la escuela.
We live next door to the school.
Vivimos durante muchos años en el campo.
We lived in the country for many years.
Viven en las afueras de la ciudad.
