Following the example below, all regular ER verbs, of which comer is an example, the -er ending is dropped and to the remainder, com, which is the stem, are attached the following endings which are shown in green.


Present Tense Examples
The present tense in Spanish is used in the same way as the simple present tense in English, namely, to describe an action which goes on every day or in general.
Generalmente como carne una vez al día.
I usually eat meat once a day.
No como pescado.
I don't eat fish.
¿Qué es eso que comes?
What's that stuff you're eating?
Ya no como helado.
I don't eat ice-cream any more.
¿A qué hora comen Uds.?
What time do you eat?
Comemos a las nueve.
We eat at nine.
Ud. no come suficientes verduras.
You don't eat enough vegetables.
Las ardillas están tan domesticadas que comen en la mano.
The squirrels are so tame they'll eat out of your hand.
Siempre comemos fuera los domingos.
We always eat out on Sundays.
