Spanish Grammar Test: Vowel-Changing Verbs
Present Tense of Vowel -Changing -IR Verbs — (3)
Instructions:Supply the correct form of the verb.
Question: Los niños repetir lo que oyen.
Answer: repiten
Useful Grammar
A special group of verbs of the third conjugation change the vowel e of their stem to i in the present tense, when the stress or accent falls upon this vowel. The verbs pedir and repetir are both typical of this group. Following are the conjugations, in the present tense, of these two verbs:
E — I
pedir (to ask for; to order)

repetir (to repeat)

NOTE: Again, that as in the case of all vowel-changing verbs, the first person plural remains regular since the accent does not fall upon the vowel of the stem but, instead, upon the first syllable of the ending.
