Introduction
English Grammar
The grammar section provides a simple, unified presentation of the essential elements of an English grammar course. The core material on each subject is presented in a form that is suitable for pre-examination review. Regardless of your method for learning English, this grammar section is an effective, easy-to-use supplement.
The grammar section is organized according to the major parts of speech, such as nouns and verbs, etc. The quizzes section (described below) provides many corresponding exercises to reinforce grammar rules.
English Grammar Quizzes
The quizzes section is intended to supplement the other portions of WebWorkbooks' English material. The quizzes test most areas of English grammar with special attention given to typically troublesome topics.
The usual format of the grammar quizzes is as follows: a model question and answer is given, followed by a short explanation of the rule. Students can choose to review first or go straight to the self-scoring quiz, which will give instant feedback.
WebWorkbooks quizzes are interactive, user-friendly, fun, and extremely valuable tools.
English Phrasal Verbs
In order to help you gain control over phrasal verbs like "let up," "run out of", "cross out," each week we present a list of 10 new phrasal verbs. Each phrase is followed by a short definition and a sentence to demonstrate its use. Also, a multiple choice quiz is provided to reinforce their use.
English Idioms
The English idioms that are provided on WebWorkbooks consist of the most common idioms in use. In order for an idiom to be included in the beginner-intermediate course, the idiom must appear in the Google search engine at least 1,000,000 times. Using that criteria we hope to provide only those idioms that will benefit you most.
Advanced English Vocabulary
The word entries in this section, with etymology, succinct definitions, and illustrative sentences, show you where words come from, how they're related to each other, and how they're used every day. Perusing this section will foster a love of words and enrich your understanding and appreciation of the English language.
Since most of the words listed in this section are derived from Latin, students who have a working knowledge of either Spanish, Portuguese, French or Italian will find this section less advanced.
